lol wow The Amazing Race in the recent season did TWO consecutive episodes in Dhaka, Bangladesh. I am impressed they went AGAIN (even after going a few seasons ago). I guess the fans love watching 1st world Americans get dumped in the hell on earth.

And they picked the absolute filthiest hoods for the detours and roadblocks. When the teams got the clue saying they were gonna go to Bangladesh…so many of them said: “HOORAY WE’RE GOING TO BANGLADESH. NEVER HEARD OF THE PLACE. MUST BE EXOTIC”. Then after they got out of the airport: “HOLY CRAP. ITS SO DIRTY, BUSY, AND ONLY FULL OF DUDES ON THE STREETS. I THINK SOME OF THEM ARE STARING AT MY TITS.”

The fast-forward was collecting dead rats. And yes (to Bengali people reading this post you will LOL), there was a task where the teams had to dig through large bags of shootki to find a red one in order to get a clue. Shootki being a bengali delicacy that is just dried smelly fish. The more flies hovering on it…the more legit it is.

It made earlier season episodes in the shantytowns of Mumbai, Rio de Janeiro, and Johannesburg among other places look pretty livable. Despite the absolutely horrendous squalor and filth, the bengali locals who were in the background appeared to be leading quite joyful lives.

For the last team who arrived and got eliminated…the bengali guy at the pitstop said “Abar Dekha Hobe” and it was subtitled in english as meaning “Good Bye”. Total lies. It actually means “I will see you again.” What a dick thing to say to the team who got eliminated.

There was a team who was a pair of tamil sisters. One was doing a road block that involved repainting and sanding a bus. Her teammmate at one point kept screaming “LONG, STRONG, AND HARD” referring to the repetetive arm strokes. She was oblivious that even the impoverished half-nude bengali men and boys spectating understood the dirty connotation of her statement. Lol these tamil sisters kept embarassing themselves telling random bengali people on the street that them and the bengali people were just brothers and sisters from different mothers. In a cab, they were telling the bengali cab driver to follow the white team in front. They were using the hindi slang for white people ‘gora’ to refer to the white people. ‘Ghora’ in bengali means horse.

Finally I learned the word for “Hello” in bengali. It is “shogotom”. I have NEVER BEFORE HEARD ANYBODY SAY IT until I saw it in the amazing race. 20 years speaking my native language and I have never heard that word used. Update. So Amazing Race subtitled it as meaning ‘hello’. But I have just been told it should have been ‘welcome’. Fail again.

I won’t reveal anything more. It is Amazing Race Season 21 Episode 4 and 5. I reccommend people go on the web, find it, and watch it. It is quite the experience. Also the amazing race went to Dhaka, Bangladesh earlier in Season 17 Episode 9, which was an equally epic episode.

UPDATE (episode following the above post):

So in today’s Amazing Race episode (Season 21 Episode 6). An american team of hippie rockers accidentally dropped money in Bangladesh, a third world country. Guess who stole the money – TWO FELLOW AMERICAN TEAMS. ON CAMERA…

So the hippie american team had to beg for money on the streets of an EXTREMELY impoverished city. The Irony – white Americans begging in third world Bangladesh. To get enough money to pay for a cab to the airport to get out. And a lot of local Bengalis gave them money. Amazing. Just Amazing! Heartwarming to see.

They don’t have a clue yet that fellow American teams stole their money. And could get be such dicks in a third world country.
